What's Samplin' This Week at Country Vines Winery

Sip pretty in the outdoor tasting area this week. Here is what we are sampling.

White Flights:

The first wine you get to enjoy is the Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. The perfect blend of Sauvignon Blanc from Keremeos and Semillon from Oliver— this wine has aromas of gooseberry, lychee, lemongrass, and cantaloupe, with juicy flavours of honey and tropical fruits. It has a long, crisp dry finish and pairs with rich seafood and shellfish, creamy pasta, savoury, citrus sauces or sweet lemon tarts.

Next, you will enjoy our Sippin’ Pretty 2017. Our most popular Sippin’ Pretty vintage! With a synergistic blend of Gewürztraminer and estate Schonburger, you’ll find aromas of tropical fruit, stone fruit, and a bouquet of flowers. On the palate is warm honey, lychee, apples and pear. With hints of rosewater and spice, this wine is a great pairing for any salad, simply-prepared shellfish, or a fresh fruit spread.

Contact Pinot Gris is what we are famous for! This estate grape is grown right here in Richmond, you can see it as you come off the 99 onto Steveston Highway. Partially barrel-fermented, this wine has notes of red fruit, strawberry and cherry, and a smooth buttery finish. Very versatile, off-dry with a slight pink hue, our Contact Pinot Gris pairs wonderfully with charcuterie, smoked salmon, prosciutto and melon, and goes great with holiday dinner!

Gewürztraminer 2018 has classic aromas of lychee, rosewater and jasmine with subtle spice notes of clove and white pepper. It is pleasantly floral on the palate with a lightly off-dry and extended finish. This wine pairs nicely with pork chops or seafood, and is a great accompaniment for spicy Asian cuisine.

End your flight with a sweet kiss (Beso Dulce White), a sweet blend with aromas of tropical fruit, spice and honeycomb. With flavours of mouth-watering fruit and crisp, well-balanced acidity, it pairs well with sweet-marinated chicken, picnic fare, or on its own!

Red Flights:

Start with this light Pinot Noir: this new 2018 vintage has a clean, soft and balanced flavour with delicate tannins and luscious, sweet fruit. This wine includes aromas of dark ripe cherries and forest floor, with combined characteristics of sweet spice, vanilla, and toasted oak. With rich flavours of berry compote and a long finish, this vintage is an excellent pair for chicken cordon bleu or stir-fried prawns and veggies.

Next up is this smooth blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has rich aromas of dark fruit, cigar box and spice. It is full-bodied with notes of blackberries, black currants, pepper and a hint of leather. With well-balanced acidity and medium tannins, it makes a wonderful pairing with braised lamb or slow-cooked beef.

Our Psyrah 2016 contains grapes from Keremeos. It is a soft and fruit-forward Syrah with aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, light spice, and vanilla. Its smooth tannins and notes of black fruit and toasted oak give it a lovely, silky mouthfeel. Pair it with pot roasts, grilled steak, or even glazed Asian bbq pork.

Drive right into the Hot Pursuit 2016. This vintage has a rich texture, full body and smooth tannins with strong red and black fruit flavours. Find deep berry and peppery aromas with a touch of soft oak on the palate. Both Hot Pursuit vintages serve as wonderful dinner wines or as pairings with charcuterie and hearty appetizers.

End with everyone’s favourite, a sweet red kiss (Beso Dulce Red). This year’s vintage is made from Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah which gives savoury aromas of chocolate, coffee, and dried fruit. It is soft on the palate and one of the smoothest red wines you’ll ever drink. The ripe red fruit and a hint of sweetness balance the soft tannins which make it easy to pair; from mushroom ratatouille to a grilled steak, this versatile wine goes with almost anything! Try it on its own or with bbq ribs, pasta, burgers, and pizza!
